EFLI takes Pune by storm

Monsoon showers may not always lead to joy, given the clogged roads and drains that help us navigate the city. But the EFLI showers this past weekend brought plenty of cheer and excitement to an enthusiastic collection of corporate footballers from the city of Pune. In a first of its kind competition, the EFLI managed to stoke excitement among some adventurous men, who set aside time to indulge in some American football.

Mischief Makers, lead by an ebullient Akshay swept aside competition to take the honors in this maiden edition of the Corporate Flag Football competition in Pune.

As you might expect football being a heavy contact sport drew heavy participation from the construction industry. It is clearly a game for hardened men and these men brought plenty of muscle and strength to this weekend event.

Bokhara Build Tech trounced M.S. Construction 6-0 in the first semifinals. Omkar did the scoring for the Bokharas to carry them through to the finals.

An indomitable collection of mischief minded men (the Makers) eased past a determined team of Sharif Caterers to march into the finals with a 12-6 victory.

Tejas and Akshay did the bulk of the scoring, but it was already clear that Hetarth Choksey was making a big difference. He was the Makers’ Quarterback and by the far the most impressive player on the field.

Shubham helped the caterers’ edge past a fatigue riddled M.S. Construction team to claim the consolation prize. That set the stage for a thrilling final encounter in a climactic contest between Bokhara and Mischief.

The final though turned out to be another one sided contest – the Makers put on a dominant final performance to dominate the Bokharas 12-0 to take the trophy.

It is one step at a time, but it getting clearer with every little competition that the EFLI is intent and eager to work its way into the Indian psyche and carve a space for itself in the growing industry of league sport.

“This event is the culmination of an enormous collective effort from the EFLI Pune Marathas and Blue Panthers team members. We have been successful to get 32 corporate companies to participate in the Corporate Flag Football tournament. I would like to thank our title sponsor ICC Digital Network for providing full support. We are hopeful to show the second Flag football season live on ICC Digital Network” Tausif Shaikh - Managing Director - EFLI PVT LTD.

“This is the first time that Flag football matches were organized in Pune on such a larger scale. We are happy to see the progress done by the EFLI team in such a short span of time. We look forward to supporting more events in the near future” Aseem Khan - Owner - ICC Digital Network.
